Responsibilities
- Shelving and Maintenance: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials (books, DVDs, magazines) accurately using the Dewey Decimal System and Library of Congress classifications.
- Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patrons with finding materials, using library computers, and navigating our digital resources.
- Check-In/Check-Out: Process library check-ins and check-outs efficiently using our automated circulation system, ensuring all items are returned in good condition.
- Program Support: Assist with the setup, execution, and cleanup of children's storytimes, adult workshops, and community events.
- Reference Support: Help answer basic reference questions and guide users to appropriate research databases or staff members.
- Facility Care: Maintain a welcoming and organized atmosphere by tidying public areas, sorting returned materials, and performing light dusting or cleaning duties.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or coursework in Library Science preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or library setting is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; basic computer literacy and familiarity with library management software (e.g., SirsiDynix) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with a diverse population.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift boxes up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and bend or reach while shelving.
- Availability: Flexibility to work a varying schedule, including weekends and evenings, as required by library operations.
