Responsibilities
- Shelving & Organization: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials, including books, periodicals, and media, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
- Circulation Services: Assist patrons with checking in and out items, renewing loans, and managing fines and fees at the circulation desk.
- Patron Assistance: Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to patrons regarding library resources, databases, and computer access.
- Collection Maintenance: Monitor library materials for damage, identify lost items, and assist in the processing of new acquisitions.
- Program Support: Help set up and facilitate library programs, events, and workshops for children and adults.
- Inventory Management: Assist with periodic inventory counts and weeding of the collection to maintain an up-to-date library system.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Library Science preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, retail, or library assistance is highly desired.
- Skills: Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with library management systems (e.g., SirsiDynix, Koha) is a plus.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move boxes of books weighing up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in filing, shelving, and data entry tasks.
