Responsibilities
- Shelve books and periodicals in correct alphabetical and numerical order using the Dewey Decimal System.
- Assist patrons with locating materials and navigating our online catalog and library computers.
- Check materials in and out using the Integrated Library System (ILS) and handle cash transactions accurately.
- Organize and maintain the circulation desk, public areas, and book drops to ensure a welcoming atmosphere.
- Help prepare, set up, and clean up for children's storytime, adult workshops, and special events.
- Answer phone inquiries and direct visitors to appropriate staff members or resources.
- Assist with inventory control, weeding the collection, and processing new acquisitions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Previous experience in customer service or a library setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Basic computer literacy and comfort with using library management software (e.g., Sierra, ELMS).
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
