Responsibilities
- Shelving and Maintenance: Sort, shelf, and organize returned library materials according to the Dewey Decimal System to ensure easy access for patrons.
- Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by helping visitors locate books, use computers, and navigate the library’s digital resources.
- Check-In/Out Operations: Process library materials, check books in and out, and manage patron accounts efficiently.
- Reference Support: Assist patrons with basic research queries and help them utilize online databases and catalog systems.
- Event Coordination: Support the setup and execution of library programs, story hours, and community events.
- Inventory Management: Assist in the preparation of new materials and conduct periodic inventory checks of the collection.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a library, archive, or customer service environment is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with library management systems (e.g., SirsiDynix, Koha, or similar) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Organization: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
