Responsibilities
- Shelving and Organization: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials, including books, media, and periodicals, ensuring accurate classification according to the Dewey Decimal System.
- Circulation Services: Assist patrons with check-out and check-in processes, manage holds, resolve account issues efficiently, and handle cash transactions.
- Reference Assistance: Provide friendly and accurate support to patrons searching for information, both in-person and via digital channels.
- Program Support: Help set up and manage community events, story hours, and educational workshops to foster community engagement.
- Collection Maintenance: Inspect materials for damage, repair damaged books, and recommend new acquisitions to the collection development team.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or library setting is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with computer systems, including library management software (e.g., SirsiDynix, Koha) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong focus on public service.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform detailed repetitive tasks.
