About the Role
The Library Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring our patrons have access to essential resources. You will work in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same, supporting circulation services and maintaining the library's vast collection.
Responsibilities
- Shelve library materials and periodicals in the correct order to ensure easy access for patrons.
- Assist customers at the circulation desk, including check-ins, check-outs, and managing fines.
- Help patrons locate specific books, research materials, and digital resources using the library's catalog.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of library stacks, study areas, and public spaces.
- Support the execution of children's programs, summer reading initiatives, and community events.
- Answer inquiries via phone or in-person regarding library policies, hours, and available services.
- Perform basic data entry and inventory management tasks.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Previous experience in a library or customer service setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to sort and organize large volumes of information.
- Basic computer proficiency and comfort with learning new software systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to stand for extended periods and lift boxes of books (up to 25 lbs) occasionally.
