Responsibilities
- Collection Management: Sort, shelf, and organize library materials (books, DVDs, periodicals) using the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress classification systems.
- Patron Support: Assist patrons in locating materials, navigating digital databases, and utilizing library computers and printing services.
- Acquisitions & Processing: Help prepare new library acquisitions by labeling, stamping, and sorting incoming shipments.
- Reference & Circulation: Answer general inquiries regarding library policies, services, and events; support the circulation desk with check-ins and check-outs.
- Inventory Control: Assist in periodic inventory audits to ensure collection accuracy and identify missing items.
- Community Outreach: Help maintain a welcoming and clean environment, ensuring public spaces are inviting for all visitors.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service role or library setting is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse age groups and backgrounds.
- Technology: Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with library management software (e.g., SirsiDynix, Koha) is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods while shelving.
