Your Role:
As a Library Assistant, you will be the face of our services, helping visitors navigate our vast collection and digital resources. You will work in a modern, historic facility that serves as the intellectual hub of the city.
Responsibilities
- Sort, shelf, and organize library materials according to the Dewey Decimal System and Library of Congress classifications.
- Assist patrons with locating books, using computers, and accessing online databases and digital archives.
- Operate circulation desk equipment to check in/out materials, manage fines, and maintain accurate patron accounts.
- Provide exceptional customer service by answering inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
- Support library programs, children's storytime sessions, and community outreach events.
- Assist with basic technology troubleshooting and IT support for library users.
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of library spaces to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a customer service or library setting is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize information accurately.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic computer literacy and comfort with library management software.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a positive, helpful attitude.
