About the Role:
As a Library Assistant, you will be the face of our library, ensuring our collection is accessible and our patrons receive world-class service. You will work closely with library staff to manage circulation, organize archives, and assist with digital initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by helping patrons locate books, research materials, and navigate our digital databases.
- Collection Management: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials with meticulous attention to detail to ensure proper cataloging and accessibility.
- Circulation Support: Manage the circulation desk, including checking in/out items, processing fines, and managing library cards.
- Program Support: Assist in the setup and facilitation of community programs, workshops, and reading events.
- Digitization: Contribute to ongoing efforts to digitize historical records and maintain the library's digital presence.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform general clerical duties, including answering phones, responding to emails, and maintaining inventory of supplies.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or library setting is preferred but not required for entry-level candidates.
- Skills: Proficiency with computers and library management systems (e.g., SirsiDynix, OCLC) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse population.
- Organization: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a busy environment.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
