Responsibilities
- Shelve and organize library materials, including books, periodicals, and multimedia items, following established library classification systems.
- Assist patrons with locating resources, using library computers, and navigating online databases.
- Process new library materials, including checking for damage, labeling, and entering data into the library management system.
- Monitor library floors to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Assist with the circulation desk, including checking in/out items, collecting fines, and managing holds.
- Answer general inquiries and provide exceptional customer service to patrons of all ages.
- Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of library stacks and public areas.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in Library Science or Information Management is a plus.
- Previous experience in a library, archives, or customer service role is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and library management software (e.g., SirsiDynix, Millennium).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift and move boxes of books and maintain stacks up to 10 feet high.
- A passion for reading and community service is essential.
