Responsibilities
- Assist Patrons: Provide exceptional customer service by helping visitors locate materials, use library computers, and navigate our digital resources.
- Shelving & Organization: Sort and shelve library materials in strict Dewey Decimal order to ensure efficient access to the collection.
- Circulation Desk Support: Check books in and out, manage holds, and process fines while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Collection Management: Help process new arrivals, repair damaged materials, and maintain the physical appearance of the stacks.
- Program Support: Assist with the setup and logistics of library programs, events, and community workshops.
- Administrative Tasks: Answer phone inquiries, manage email correspondence, and assist with data entry and reporting.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or coursework in Library Science is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service or a library setting is preferred but not mandatory for immediate hires.
- Skills: Strong computer literacy, including familiarity with library management software (e.g., Sierra, Evergreen).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a friendly, approachable attitude.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and navigate stairs in a multi-level building.
- Availability: Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as required by the library schedule.
