Responsibilities
- Customer Service Excellence: Greet patrons warmly and assist them in locating books, research materials, and digital resources.
- Library Operations: Manage the circulation desk, including checking items in and out, processing fines, and managing holds.
- Collection Management: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials to ensure they are easily accessible and in good condition.
- Program Support: Assist in the setup and execution of library programs, such as children's story times, book clubs, and computer workshops.
- Archival Support: Help maintain the integrity of special collections and assist with digitization projects where applicable.
- Administrative Duties: Answer phones, respond to emails, and help maintain the cleanliness and order of the library spaces.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required; an Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service role or a library setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Skills: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interact positively with people of all ages.
- Technical Proficiency: Basic computer skills and familiarity with library management software (e.g., Evergreen) are highly desirable.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift and move boxes of books up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Availability: Must be available to work weekends and holidays to meet community needs.
