Responsibilities
- Shelving and Organization: Maintain the integrity of the library collection by shelving books and periodicals in an organized and efficient manner according to the Dewey Decimal System.
- Patron Assistance: Greet visitors warmly, answer basic reference questions, and assist patrons in finding materials using the library catalog and online databases.
- Front Desk Operations: Manage the circulation desk, including checking books in and out, processing fines, managing holds, and issuing library cards.
- Program Support: Assist in the setup and breakdown of children’s storytime sessions, book clubs, and community events to ensure smooth operations.
- Material Maintenance: Sort returned materials, perform basic repair of damaged books, and ensure the cleanliness and safety of public areas.
- Technology Help: Provide basic troubleshooting for library computers, printers, and Wi-Fi access for patrons.
- Collection Development: Help identify popular titles and assist in the processing of new arrivals.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
- Experience: No prior experience required. We are looking for eager learners.
- Skills: Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn library management software quickly.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a friendly, customer-service-oriented attitude.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift boxes of up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work weekends and occasional evenings as required by library schedules.
