As a Library Assistant, you will play a crucial role in our mission to foster lifelong learning. You will work closely with library staff to ensure our collections are accessible and our patrons receive the highest level of support.
Responsibilities
- Shelving & Organization: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials including books, DVDs, and periodicals according to the Dewey Decimal System.
- Circulation Desk Support: Check materials in and out for patrons, manage fines, and assist with renewals and holds.
- Patron Assistance: Help visitors locate resources, use library computers, and answer general inquiries regarding library services and events.
- Collection Maintenance: Monitor collection areas for damaged materials and report lost or stolen items to the supervisor.
- Program Support: Assist in setting up and breaking down community programs, story hours, and digital literacy workshops.
- General Maintenance: Dust shelves, clean public areas, and ensure the library environment is inviting and safe.
- Administrative Tasks: Process interlibrary loan requests and maintain accurate circulation records.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service role or library setting is preferred but not required.
- Skills: Basic computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Organizational: Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Physical: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.
