The Buffalo Public Library System is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team. Responsibilities
- Shelve library materials and organize returned items according to the Dewey Decimal System.
- Assist patrons with locating books, using computer terminals, and navigating online databases.
- Process new library arrivals, including checking for damage and labeling items.
- Manage circulation desk duties, including checking books in and out and processing fines.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the library shelves and public areas.
- Answer general inquiries and provide exceptional customer service to all visitors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Previous experience in a library or customer service role is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderately heavy books (up to 20 lbs).
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
