Responsibilities
- Shelve and organize library materials, including books, periodicals, and media, using the Dewey Decimal System.
- Assist patrons with locating materials, using computers, and navigating our digital catalog systems.
- Process new library items, including checking in, stamping, and labeling.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of library floors and public service desks.
- Assist in the planning and execution of children’s programs and community events.
- Answer phone inquiries and direct visitors to appropriate staff members.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a customer service or library setting is a plus.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer troubleshooting.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable due to the diverse demographics of New Orleans.
