What You Will Do
Our Library Assistant role is multifaceted, ensuring our patrons have a seamless experience every time they visit.
Responsibilities
- Circulation Management: Check in and check out library materials using our integrated library system (SirsiDynix) accurately and efficiently.
- Shelving & Organization: Sort, shelve, and organize returned books and periodicals according to the Library of Congress classification system to maintain a tidy, accessible collection.
- Patron Assistance: Assist patrons with locating books, researching topics, using library computers, and navigating our online databases.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional service by answering phones, responding to emails, and resolving patron inquiries regarding fines, policies, and programs.
- Program Support: Assist with the setup, registration, and execution of children’s storytimes, book clubs, and adult workshops.
- Inventory Control: Help conduct monthly inventory counts and assist in the processing of new book donations.
- Facility Maintenance: Monitor library floors to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all visitors.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field is a plus.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer navigation skills.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, reach, and lift boxes of books weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Organization: Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Availability: Must be available to work weekends and some evenings as required by library schedules.
