Welcome to the Tulsa Public Library, a dynamic hub of learning and community engagement. We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Library Assistants. This is an excellent opportunity for career changers and recent graduates to enter the library science field with a comprehensive paid training program.
In this role, you will be the face of our services, helping patrons navigate the vast resources of our collections while ensuring the smooth operation of our circulation desks. We value professionalism, enthusiasm, and a commitment to serving the Tulsa community.
Responsibilities
- Assist patrons with locating physical and digital materials, conducting research, and using library databases.
- Shelve returned books accurately using the Dewey Decimal System and maintain the organization of the stacks.
- Process new arrivals, check-in items, and manage inter-library loan requests.
- Operate library circulation software (e.g., Sierra) to process check-outs, renewals, and fines.
- Answer incoming phone calls and provide accurate information to community members.
- Maintain a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all visitors.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions to enhance professional skills and library knowledge.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to lift boxes of books (up to 25 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Reliable attendance and a willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Enthusiasm for education, history, and customer service.
