Responsibilities
- Shelving & Organization: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials, including books, periodicals, and media, ensuring accurate placement on the shelves.
- Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by helping patrons locate resources, use library computers, and navigate digital databases and catalogs.
- Material Processing: Inspect returned items for damage, process new acquisitions, and assist with the check-in/check-out procedures using the library's circulation system.
- Program Support: Assist in the setup and execution of library programs, including children's story hours, book clubs, and community events.
- Facility Maintenance: Monitor library floors to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Reference Assistance: Direct patrons to appropriate resources and answer general questions about library services and policies.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service or library work is a plus but not mandatory.
- Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with library management systems (e.g., Millennium, SirsiDynix) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse population.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and reach shelves at varying heights.
- Availability: Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by library operations.
