Responsibilities
- Patron Assistance: Provide friendly and accurate assistance to library visitors, including answering directional questions, assisting with computer usage, and helping locate materials.
- Collection Management: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials including books, periodicals, and media in an efficient and orderly manner.
- Program Support: Set up meeting rooms and spaces for library programs, workshops, and community events; assist with check-in and check-out processes.
- Clerical Duties: Perform light administrative tasks such as answering phones, sorting mail, and maintaining accurate circulation records.
- Collection Maintenance: Monitor shelves for damaged materials, process inter-library loans, and assist in the maintenance of the library's catalog.
- Community Engagement: Promote library programs and services to the public, encouraging community involvement and library usage.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or coursework in Library Science is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service or library operations is preferred but not mandatory.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Technical Proficiency: Basic computer skills and familiarity with library systems or MS Office applications.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move boxes of books weighing up to 25 pounds, and navigate the library facility.
