Responsibilities
- Circulation Support: Assist patrons with checking out and returning materials, processing fines, and managing library cards.
- Collection Management: Shelve returned books and periodicals using the Dewey Decimal System, ensuring the library stacks are organized and accessible.
- Reference Assistance: Guide patrons to digital resources, assist with computer inquiries, and provide basic research support.
- System Operations: Operate library management software (such as Sierra or Evergreen) for cataloging and inventory tracking.
- Program Support: Help set up and facilitate children's storytime sessions, book clubs, and community events.
- Space Maintenance: Monitor public areas to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Library Science or related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, retail, or a library setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite and basic computer navigation; familiarity with library management systems is a strong advantage.
- Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to explain complex instructions clearly.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift boxes up to 25 lbs, and push book carts.
