Responsibilities
- Collection Management: Shelve and organize library materials accurately, including books, periodicals, and media, using Library of Congress classification.
- Patron Assistance: Provide friendly and efficient customer service at the circulation desk, assisting patrons with check-in/check-out processes and account inquiries.
- System Operations: Utilize library automation systems (e.g., SirsiDynix) to manage patron accounts, search for materials, and process inter-library loans.
- Reference Support: Assist patrons with locating resources, navigating databases, and using library technology, including computer labs and printing services.
- Inventory Control: Conduct regular shelf-reading and inventory audits to ensure collection integrity and detect missing items.
- Facility Maintenance: Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors and staff.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or library setting is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail; basic computer literacy and proficiency with database software.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move boxes of books weighing up to 25 lbs; standing for extended periods is required.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, patience, and a genuine interest in working with the public.
