We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team at the City of Houston Public Library. Responsibilities
- Assist patrons with locating books, periodicals, and digital resources using the library catalog and online databases.
- Shelve library materials accurately and in an organized manner using the Dewey Decimal System.
- Check materials in and out, manage fines, and process interlibrary loan requests.
- Organize and maintain the circulation desk, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment.
- Support library programs and events by setting up materials and assisting attendees.
- Monitor the library floor to ensure safety and adherence to library policies.
- Perform light cleaning and maintenance of library areas and equipment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Previous experience in a customer service role is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with library systems (e.g., Millennium, Sierra) is a plus.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift and move boxes of books up to 25 pounds.
