Responsibilities
- Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by helping patrons locate materials, conduct research, and navigate library resources effectively.
- Collection Management: Assist in the shelving, sorting, and organizing of books, periodicals, and digital media to ensure the library collection is accessible and orderly.
- Circulation Support: Manage the circulation desk, including check-in/check-out processes, processing returns, and managing holds.
- Program Support: Help set up and facilitate library programs, workshops, and community events for adults, teens, and children.
- Technology Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot basic library equipment, including computers, printers, and self-checkout kiosks.
- Administrative Tasks: Assist with data entry, inventory management, and maintaining accurate records of library materials and transactions.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or coursework in Library Science preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a library or customer service role is a plus but not required.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with people from all backgrounds.
- Flexibility: Ability to work a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of library patrons.
- Organization: Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize materials efficiently.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with library automation systems (e.g., Sierra, Koha) is an asset.
