Responsibilities
- Patron Support: Assist visitors with locating materials, navigating the catalog, and utilizing library equipment such as printers and scanners.
- Circulation Desk Operations: Manage the check-in and check-out process, handle fines, and maintain accurate circulation records.
- Collection Management: Sort, shelve, and organize library materials, including books, periodicals, and digital media, ensuring the collection is accessible and well-maintained.
- Equipment Maintenance: Monitor and report on the functionality of library hardware and software, assisting with basic troubleshooting as needed.
- Program Assistance: Help set up and facilitate community programs, workshops, and events, including children's story hours and technology training sessions.
- Reference Assistance: Provide general reference services and direct patrons to appropriate resources for their research needs.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or coursework in Library Science is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or library environment is preferred but not mandatory for enthusiastic candidates.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn library management systems quickly.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with people from all backgrounds.
- Organization: Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move boxes of books (up to 25 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
