Chicago Public Library (CPL) is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Library Assistant to join our team. Responsibilities
- Patron Assistance: Greet and assist visitors of all ages with locating materials, using the library catalog, and accessing digital resources.
- Circulation Services: Process check-ins and check-outs efficiently, manage holds, and assist with fines and fees using the circulation system.
- Collection Management: Sort, shelve, and organize books, periodicals, and media to ensure the library stacks are tidy and accessible.
- Reference Support: Provide basic research assistance and teach patrons how to utilize library databases and computers.
- Space Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of public areas and assist with setting up for library programs and events.
- Equipment Management: Help troubleshoot basic issues with library hardware, including printers, scanners, and public access computers.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service or a library setting is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Technology: Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Interpersonal: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse population.
- Physical: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and push book carts.
