Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service at circulation desks, assisting patrons with check-outs, returns, and account management
- Organize, shelve, and maintain library collections ensuring optimal accessibility and order
- Conduct reference interviews and assist patrons in locating materials using library catalogs and digital resources
- Support program coordination for community events, workshops, and educational initiatives
- Perform technical processing including cataloging, labeling, and inventory management
- Operate library systems including integrated library systems (ILS), printers, and scanning equipment
- Collaborate with team members to resolve patron inquiries and improve service delivery
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or library science coursework preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience in customer service, library operations, or related field
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations
- Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office and library management systems
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials up to 25 pounds
- Commitment to library ethics, confidentiality, and inclusive service practices
- Valid New York State driver's license (if required for branch rotations)
