About the Role:
As a Library Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for thousands of patrons. You will help ensure our collection is accessible, organized, and ready for our community to explore.
Responsibilities
- Perform circulation duties including checking in and checking out materials using the Integrated Library System (ILS).
- Shelve books, magazines, and media in the correct Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress order.
- Assist patrons with locating resources, using public computers, and navigating our online databases.
- Answer phone inquiries and direct visitors to the appropriate departments or staff members.
- Organize and maintain the circulation desk area, ensuring it is clean and efficient.
- Assist in processing inter-library loan requests and managing holds.
- Provide exceptional customer service to diverse populations of all ages.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required; prior experience in a library or customer service role is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
- Basic proficiency with computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and some evenings.
