Responsibilities
- Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patrons with finding materials, using computers, and researching information.
- Collection Management: Sort, shelve, and organize books, periodicals, and media to ensure a neat and accessible library environment.
- Circulation Desk: Process check-ins and check-outs, manage fines, and maintain the circulation system with accuracy.
- Program Support: Assist in the setup and execution of library programs, including story times, workshops, and adult education classes.
- Inventory Control: Conduct regular inventory checks and assist in the weeding and processing of new acquisitions.
- Facility Maintenance: Keep library areas clean, safe, and welcoming for all visitors.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Library Science or related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or library setting is preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills; familiarity with library automation systems (e.g., SirsiDynix, Koha) is a plus.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift boxes of books (up to 30 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Attention to Detail: Must be organized and capable of managing inventory with precision.
